Our Location

The Mill Road Studio is in Port Rexton, a small coastal village overlooking Trinity Bay on the Bonavista Peninsula.  A ten-minute drive from the historic town of Trinity and 30 minutes down the coast from Bonavista (where Cabot first landed in 1497), Port Rexton offers stunning views of the coastline, cliffs and natural beauty of the area. The internationally recognized Skerwink Trail is a five-minute walk from the studio.

“Time moves at a different pace and the setting is one of serenity and calm, a perfect backdrop for learning and creating art. I dream of returning just to watch life go by, watch an iceberg float in or listen to the blow of a whale with pencil in hand.”

— D. Bald

About the Area

The area around Port Rexton, known as the Trinity Bight, offers a wide variety of activities for before and after the program, or to occupy travelling companions  during your days in the studio. These include hiking, whale watching, birding, sea kayaking and golf as well as visiting picturesque villages (such as Tickle Cove, Red Cliff and Keels), historic centres (Bonavista and Trinity) and Terra Nova National Park. There are a number of coastal and inland hiking trails in the region; most are within a 30-minute drive from Port Rexton. Many nearby towns have something unique to offer: Trinity has a beautiful collection of restored buildings, several museums and shops, and the Rising Tide Theatre for evening entertainment; Elliston hosts an annual puffin festival; Bonaventure is the site of the Random Passage film set and a trail to Kerley’s Harbour, a resettled fishing community. At Cape Bonavista, you can visit the lighthouse, watch whales and puffins, or simply marvel at the beauty and historic significance of this remote and windswept spot.
